Why the Switchboard Needed Attention

During a recent kitchen renovation in Darley, we were asked to install a few new circuits: an oven circuit, an induction cooktop circuit, and an additional power circuit. While carrying out the work, we inspected the existing switchboard and found that it still used old-style fuses.

Although nothing had failed yet, the board needed to be upgraded to meet modern safety regulations and to handle the extra demand of the new appliances. It’s a good example of how upgrades aren’t always about fixing a problem today, but about future-proofing the home and protecting the family.

The Upgrade Process

We removed the outdated fuse board and replaced it with a modern switchboard fitted with RCBO's (circuit breakers and RCD (safety) switch combinations) and also added a new Main Earth electrode. This setup provides much better protection against electrical faults and ensures that the kitchen’s new appliances are running on dedicated, safe circuits.

By upgrading now, the homeowner avoided potential overload issues and brought the property up to current safety standards. The board is now far easier to maintain, and the family has peace of mind knowing that their home is safer and compliant.
